What educators are saying

These story starters are so easy to use in the classroom. We use these on Fridays to build our stamina with writing, but the students love getting a choice with what they write about.

Description

Engaging February writing prompts paired with compelling photographs: these are not your ordinary story starters! Includes printable versions AND digital versions (using Google Slides).

Each of the 10 photographs, chosen for the month of February, (with themes of Groundhog Day, Black History Month, Valentine's Day, and President's Day, among others) includes three carefully crafted story starters, plus one set of open-ended prompting questions, for a total of 40 prompts.

The story starters engage students in several types of writing, the majority being narrative (both first-person and third-person points-of-view), but also include persuasive, opinion, description, compare-contrast, instructions, and more.

PRINTABLE

All of the story starters come in three different printable formats: a "task card" format that lends itself to a writing center or workstation use; a "separate strips" format, where each strip includes a unique story starter and the accompanying photo, allowing the option to glue into a notebook or journal; and a "no prep" format, allowing you to print and go. Writing paper for each photo is included in two line-spacing options.

DIGITAL

The digital version comes as 10 separate Google Slides files, once for each photo. (**You will get a PDF within the zip with clickable links that allow you to access the Google Slides.**) Each Slides file contains 8 slides: Student Directions, four Prompt slides, a Planning slide, and two Writing slides where students type their story.

Check out the preview for a closer look at some of the photos and their story starters!
