Description

This comprehensive checklist focuses on the basics of writing and progresses through the more detailed and advanced writing styles and functions to help your students improve their writing skills. It doesn't matter where your students are currently, all you have to do is find where they fit on the list and help them make progress!

More About This Product

This product can be used for teachers to track their students’ progress or for students to track their own progress. In the past, I’ve used it as professional development tool to track my one-on-one time with my students but I’ve also used it as a way for my students to track their own progress and determine the independent writing focus for their assignments. This checklist is student-friendly so that all students can use it as long as they understand the different topics on the list. It’s best recommended for middle school through high school students. The only preparation that this product requires from you is assessing where your students currently are on the list.

Book Club Unit: A 5-week Student-Led Group Novel Study

In this Book Club Unit, your students will work in small groups to read and discuss a novel of their choice. You turn the classroom over to them and allow them to explore teacher-approved novels with their peers while developing their reading and conversational skills.

Point of View Poetry: A Fun, Creative Poetry Writing Activity

Paired with reading Craig Raine's "A Martian Sends a Postcard Home," students will create their own poems describing an item or event that they encounter in their daily lives; however, the goal is to describe it as if they were young children who were unaware of the correct terminology for the item they are describing.
