Writing Pages (Magazine, Newspaper, Website) - To meet Common Core Standards

Use these writing pages to meet common core standards to integrate visual supports with written information. These pages can be used for individual assignments or reports, as pages for newspaper articles or magazine articles, or as draft/mock website pages.

Contents:
* 7 Different first page formats including area for title and 0 – 3 visual aids
* 7 Different supplemental page formats including area for 0 – 3 visual aids
* Pages can be combined in multiple ways to provide student choice

Lesson/ Use Suggestions:
* Assign students to write/ report about a topic while including visual information:
- Social Studies: Show What You Know: Using what you’ve learned about Mesoamerican ball games, write a newspaper article integrating your knowledge using words and visual aids.
- Science: Op-Ed: Give your informed but personal evaluation and opinions on the need for efficient recycling. Include/integrate at least one meaningful visual aid.
- English/ Language Arts: Book Review: Review and evaluate the book you read independently. Be sure to include: a brief summary of the book, your evaluation of the strengths/weaknesses of the book, and your conclusion about who may enjoy reading this book and why. Integrate a meaningful illustration to help your reader understand your evaluation.
* Assign projects based on magazine or newspaper formats:
- Literary Magazine: Each student chooses a page format to write a story with illustration(s). Stories are then assembled into a magazine or booklet to be shared in the classroom or donated to an area preschool or handed down to a lower grade classroom.
- Cooperative Content Project: Small groups of students (3-4) create a newspaper or magazine to share their learning about a particular topic.

~ Science: Perspective on Climate Change, Body Systems in Use, Sources of Energy
~ Math: How to Solve Linear Equations, Analyzing Data, Fractions Vs. Decimals

Integrate quantitative or technical information expressed in words in a text with a version of that information expressed visually (e.g. in a flow chart, diagram, model, graph, or table).

RH.6-8.7
Integrate visual information (e.g. in charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps) with other information in print or digital texts.
