I use these writing prompts as monthly homework for my students. It offers me a chance to build the home-school connection with learning and building stamina with my 2nd graders' writing process.

This writing pack has a variety of topics and genres to make writing fun. I used them individually as homework practice, and I use them as a monthly journal for my student's to use in their daily journal center.
Included in the packet are:
* "My January Journal" cover sheet
* January Words - color and black and white
* 6 sheets of various handwriting practice pages for January words
* 2 pages of labeling pictures ~ two options for differentiation
* 2 listen/read and draw activities ~ listen to or read the story and draw an illustration
* 2 Acrostic poems ~ WINTER and ONE HUNDRED
* Five Senses color poem with teacher instructions ~ color white
* New Years resolutions for a friend
* Venn Diagrams ~ comparing winter in north and south and comparing winter and summer clothing
* Informational writing packet for Martin Luther King: KWL, your dream for America, informational graphic organizer, 2 writing pages for final draft, and one writing page for how you can make a difference
* Comparison of a friend and you ~ two options for differentiation
