What educators are saying

I used this as an extended thinking activity for students who finish their work quickly. I also use this as a choice board activity for end of unit review. I spread the responses out around the room in their categories, but students' names were not revealed. It's a nice activity.
This turned out really cool. At the end of the year I had a lot of fun reading through our class notebooks and learning about students experiences and thoughts.

Description

This interactive bulletin board is a way to encourage students to TELL THEIR STORY and share it with their peers. I’ve included 21 different journal writing prompts for students to choose in this resource. Simply print and display them in your classroom.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • Bulletin Board Directions
  • Display Images
  • "We All Have A Story To Tell" letters for board
  • 21 writing challenges
  • Collaborative directions for students to share their journal entries with their peers
  • Pictures for examples

TEACHER DIRECTIONS/SETUP:

1. Print the hexagon challenges on pages 2-22 of this document. These are the writing prompts your students will choose from.

2. You will need a journal for each prompt OR a journal for each class– whichever you prefer. I like to shop for these when they’re on sale for $.50 a piece before the beginning of the school year! Students will use these journals to write their responses. This creates a collaborative opportunity for students to share their thoughts, ideas, and stories with their classmates.

3. Print the “We All Have a Story To Tell” and “Tell Yours” on 10”x20” poster paper. You can do this at stores like Office Max, Staples, or UPS.

4. Use the bulletin board setup guidelines above to arrange your board and post it in your classroom!

This bulletin board was designed for Extreme Makeover Classroom Edition on the Navajo reservation in Monument Valley, Utah! It was a huge hit with the teacher and students!

Check out what other teachers, just like you, are saying about this resource:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I have recently added this to the corner of our zen space. I have the accompanying journals labeled and in decorative baskets nearby. Students are able to journal as part of a class activity or during their free time as well. The journals are for everyone to contribute to and signatures are not required at the bottom. So far my students have enjoyed this new take on journaling in our classroom! " -DHH of the Lakes

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "My students really enjoyed this writing resource. We all enjoyed the fact that there were so many choices that we could choose from when it came to writing and telling our own version of our stories. I can't wait to continue to revisit this resources as the year goes by." -Crystal N.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "LOVED how easy this is to use. This is my first year using a interactive bulletin board. Super easy to use and my students like the prompts. It is also good for emergency lesson plans to just have the kiddos write about one of the topics. I also made a check list for each student to make sure that they did not choose the same one throughout the school year. So helpful and makes my classroom bulletin board look good" -Alayna K.
