Description

The Writing Desk is a quick reference sheet for your students to use during Writing Workshop, Peer Revision, and Editing. I created this using two overlapping manilla folders. Then, I pasted a sheet inside each of the 3 'walls.'

2 of the sheets are editing/revision guides, including the following:
* Commonly Misspelled Words
* Introductory Elements - AAAWWUBBIS
* Transition Words
* How to correctly quote
* The Do's and Don'ts of Peer Revision
* A publishing checklist (for final drafts)
* Compound Sentences - FANBOYS
* Appositives
* Other Ways to Say 'Said'
* And your choice of either: 1) No Excuses rules (capital letters, final punctuation, check your spelling, did you write your name???) OR 2) The TEL-Con writing structure. This is a writing method I use in my classroom for organizing a strong body paragraph with a Thesis/Topic Sentence, Evidence, Link, and Concluding statement. I included both options, since not everyone uses the TELCon writing structure. If you want to learn more, the following products explain TELCon and include writing activities, models/samples, and rubrics:

* Cross-Curricular Prompt Writing: Middle & High School: Common Core Organization
* Argumentative Writing Instructional Workbook Grades 7-10: The Paper Chain
* Argumentation Writing Unit: Common Core: Online Collaborative Discussion

The 3rd sheet is a rubric based on Common Core language and 6 Traits of Writing. Though I don't address each of the 6 traits in every single writing piece we do, I do ask my students to focus on a couple as we write and revise.

Enjoy!!
