What educators are saying

Great resource for free writing. The pictures are colorful and are fun prompts for the kids to use their imagination for writing. They also really like knowing the correct (not phonetic spelling) of key details in their writing.
Great resource for my students. They love the theme focused options on display in our writing center.

Description

Picture dictionaries and visual word vocabulary cards are a great resource for learners and students that seek visual support in writing or word work activities! Use a variety of these 17 visual word bank cards featuring seasonal and themed words and pictures to support writing, reading, or word work. Use the visual dictionary cards in your writing center with picture examples for drawing and writing stories, writing activities, word work activities, or at tables and desks as a personal word wall. These can also be used as vocabulary picture cards for teaching and exposing English learners to themed vocabulary words (and themed vocabulary words in general for all young learners!)

There are also digital files (PowerPoint and Google Slides) for all word slides included! Display the word cards on your interactive whiteboard or share them with students to individual devices.

Resource ideas:

  • Laminate the word cards for durability and attach them to a convenient binder ring, enabling students to easily flip through them at the writing center, word work center, tables, or their seats. For quick access, you can also place the picture dictionaries in page protectors inside a binder, conveniently kept in the writing or word work center.
  • The word cards can be used in the writing center for a wide range of activities, such as writing stories, crafting letters or cards, creating lists, drawing pictures, and much more, either in the writing center or at their seats during writing sessions.
  • Incorporate the word cards into the word work center for interactive writing practice. Students can have fun while enhancing their skills by using various writing supplies, such as play-doh, mini erasers, magnetic letters, and whiteboards to practice writing the words.
  • Digital: Share all the slides (or select certain slides) with your students on your learning platform to their individual devices, or for access at home. You can also display the word cards on your interactive white board.

3 sizes included: Full page, half page, and quarter page sizes.

  • Full pages: can be printed, laminated, and hung up to display in the writing center or word work center. They can also be printed on cardstock and placed in thick page protectors to bind a small thin 3 ring binder for organization and easy access for students to flip to the page they need! These can also be printed and kept in the student’s writing folder or journal for reference.
  • Half pages: A smaller version that can be printed, laminated and cut. Hole punch the top corner of the cards and place on a loose binder ring for easy flipping. These can also be printed and kept in the student’s writing folder or journal for reference.
  • Quarter pages: Perfect size (4 to a page) for creating individual student binder rings. Print, laminate, cut and hole punch and then place on a binder ring!
