Writer's Workshop for Newbies (and Great Ideas for the Experienced!)

I created this presentation for a 30-person PD to introduce K-12 teachers at my school to the workshop model, as I was the only one at the school who had done it previously (for 5 years). It gives an overview of a *balanced* workshop model; helpful hints about conferencing, homework, class management and organization; a number of rubrics, on-demand assessments and activities I use; and at least ten potential mini-lessons for your students. The presentation can last 60-90 minutes, but the lessons contained within can last for months. In short, this is basically my success as a workshop teacher condensed into 45 slides.

It's a strong introduction to anyone who's new to the workshop model, and a helpful guide for those more experienced teachers who need some fresh ideas for writing workshop. Having no previous knowledge of workshop, the (1st-8th grade) teachers who listened to this presentation raved about it, and many of them came up to me afterward to tell me it was the best PD they've ever been to.
