Description
This bundle goes with these four videos on WWI.
1) Lusitania & America's Entrance into WWI
2) Eugene Debs, Sedition, Espionage, & the Homefront
3) Harlem Hellfights and the Black Experience During WWI
4) Wilson and the League of Nations
Each lesson has 4 parts- the story lecture on youtube, an interactive notesheet to help comprehend, connect with, and think critically about the history, a quick quiz, and an extension lesson. Between these four videos students will develop a robust understanding of America's participation in the Great War. From the outbreak of war in Europe, the factors that led America into the war (especially focusing on the amazing story of Lusitania), the war on the homefront focused especially on the crackdown on civil liberties and Eugene Debs' arrest for his Canton, Ohio speech, the war over there and how black Americans were impacted by the war at home and especially the triumphs and struggles of the Harlem Hellfighters, and lastly, Wilson's mission to create the League of Nations and secure his 14 Points and why America rejected it in the end.
Each lesson builds different historical thinking skills but all have students practice some close reading, writing skills, and think critically about the material. They first create a propaganda poster to encourage Americans to support the war effort focused on the Lusitania, a mini-DBQ on the government's restriction of speech and arrest of Emma Goldman for violating the Espionage Act, a comparison of two primary sources on how black soldiers should fight for rights when they returned from the war, and analysis of political cartoon, two speech excerpts, and an argumentative writing if America should have joined the League of Nations.
Each lesson has everything you as the teacher and the students need. A google drive link to all resources to receive free updates in the future and answer keys for everything.
Thanks for checking out my material and lessons!
