This fantastic full lesson plan on the "Double V" has your students analyzing primary source documents related to African Americans' experiences during WWII.
In 1943, an African-American newspaper coined the term "Double V" in regards to seeking "victory over enemies abroad and over racism at home." However, African Americans still served in segregated units and experienced discrimination throughout the war.
This lesson has students working individually, in pairs, or in small groups to analyze primary source documents related to different aspects of the African American experience during World War 2.
