Word Work Centers: Spring

This unit includes over seven center activities to welcome springtime after the chilly winter.

Included are:

- Making Words (3 recording sheets with options from 2-9 letters)
- Word Search (using most of the 36 vocabulary words)
- Building Words with Prefixes and/or Suffixes (combining a prefix and/or a suffix to make a new word, then defining the compound word)
- Parts of Speech Sort (sorting 36 springtime words into nouns, verbs, or adjectives)
- ABC Order (organizing 36 springtime words into alphabetical order)
- Syllable Sort (from 1-3+ syllables)
- Pick 3: Types of Sentences (choosing three summertime cards and writing four sentences- statement, question, exclamation, and command or declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative)
- Publishing Paper (for centers who finish early, included paper can be used to use the word(s) in a story, poem, how-to, etc.)
- 30 prefix/suffix/root word cards to build words (includes EDITABLE prefix, suffix and root word card as well to add your own!)
- Prefix & Suffix Poster to help at centers
- 36 springtime word cards

Great to practice a wide range of word work during these warmer springtime months.

This unit addresses the following 3rd Grade Common Core State Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3.4b Determine the meaning of the new word formed when a known affix is added to a known word (e.g., agreeable/disagreeable, comfortable/uncomfortable, care/careless, heat/preheat)
