The Word Building Bundle is a pack of high-interest, hands-on Literacy Center activities!

The Making Words Toolkit is based on Patricia Cunningham’s popular and effective Making Words books. In this powerful activity, kids manipulate a set of letters to build words, explore spelling patterns, and develop their spelling abilities. It works well in your Word Work literacy center as a great stand-alone activity, or as a component in an Interactive Notebook (photos and materials included!).

Directions: Students cut out the scrambled letter tiles along the side of the Word Building page. They’ll manipulate those letters to build as many words as possible, sorting them according to the number of letters. Students then try to find the Mystery Word—the word that uses ALL of the letters. (This is often the most exciting part, and kids LOVE to try to figure that out right away!) To extend the activity even further, a Spelling Sort mat is included so that students can sort their new words by spelling pattern.

Word Building Basics is an easy-to-implement Literacy Center activity. Kids manipulate tiles to build words, then sort according to spelling patterns and record on the included mats. Super simple, super effective Word Work for your Lit Center!

Finally, in Anagram-O-Rama (my kids love saying that over and over!), kids are challenged to find as many words as possible, using all the letters in a given word (example: steal-stale-least-slate). The six included pages, plus a bin of letter tiles, makes an instant Literacy Center!
