What educators are saying

I printed in color and laminated them. Some are posted on the wall, some are near student desks for easy access.
I keep this posted near my math word wall. It really helps students remember some of the words they will see when solving word problems.

Description

Word problems can be difficult for our students to decode. This nine page pack has a list of common words students need to know when solving word problems. By being able to find these key words, the students will know what operation (multiplication, division, subtraction, addition) to use on one-step and multiple-step word problems.

Large Posters for Classroom Display

Large posters on the four operations for displays. These posters provide an easy reference when students are working on word problems.

Small Cards for Math Notebooks

Smaller card versions that can be printed, cut out, and glued into your students math notebooks for easy reference.

Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Solve two-step word problems using the four operations. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.
