What educators are saying

We love practicing our blending and reading in different ways. These have been so helpful for ALL of my learners. I LOVE YOUR WORK! Thank you so much!

Description

Designed to provide teachers with a research-based resource for early readers, these CVC and digraph word mapping pages will provide students with valuable practice connecting the phonemes (sounds) in a word to the corresponding graphemes (letters or letter combinations). According to research, the process of orthographic mapping enables our brains to store words for instant, accurate, effortless retrieval. Once a word has been mapped, it becomes a permanent part of our sight vocabulary, and we no longer have to decode it. In addition, the size of one’s sight vocabulary directly impacts reading fluency.

This product will support students’ ability to map phonemes to graphemes:

  • First, students will name the given picture.
  • Next, students will move bingo chips, counters, or other small manipulatives into the provided circles as they orally produce the beginning, middle, and ending phonemes in the word.
  • Then, students will write the corresponding grapheme in each circle.
  • Finally, students will write the word on the provided line and read it.

These pages are ideal for whole group instruction, small group instruction and intervention, independent work, or even centers. You will receive 23 pages: 2 word mapping pages for each short vowel, 5 pages that contain a mix of all short vowels, 1 word mapping page for each digraph (ch, sh, th, ck), and 4 pages that contain a mix of the digraphs. The short vowel or digraph of focus is noted at the top of each page. Each page contains 6 words to map. In addition, you will receive each page in both color and blackline printing options for a total of 46 pages. The color pages could be placed in page protectors for repeated use during small group instruction or classroom centers!
