Word Family PowerPoints offer an engaging activity for reading word work and phonics instruction for Kindergarten, First Grade, or Second Grade. The timed animation features in PowerPoint make the letters appear automatically to support students in sounding out words.

This is perfect for use with a Smart Board, Activboard, or other interactive whiteboard. It can be used without that technology as long as you have PowerPoint and a computer.

Each PowerPoint presentation in this bundle focuses on a single word family and includes the following words:

_ake: bake, cake, fake, Jake, lake, make, rake, take, wake, brake
_eep: deep, jeep, keep, peep, weep, creep, sheep, sleep, sweep
_ine: dine, fine, line, mine, nine, pine, vine, shine, spine, whine

Each of the five PowerPoint presentations contains 19-21 slides. Slide 2 emphasizes auditory practice of phonics with the recognition of rhyming words using pictures. Slides 3 and 4 connect phonemes with corresponding graphemes for the word family. Slides 6 to 15 give practice with applying knowledge of phoneme-grapheme correspondence to sound out words using timed animation for support. Slides 16 and 17 give practice sounding out words without the support of the timed animation. The remaining slides include the title, directions, and teacher notes. A different colored striped background is used to help distinguish each presentation. The font for all presentations is Century Gothic in blue.
