Women Mathematicians

Did you know women make up half of the college-educated workforce but make up just 25% of the STEM field? As teachers and educators, it is up to us to prepare young girls to be confident and develop the mathematical skills to do math at high levels. One way we can do that is by celebrating and honoring women who once have and currently do work in the STEM field. Dr. Ashanti Jones once said, "One of the struggles…then, was that I didn’t see anyone who looked like myself. So although I was excited about Jacques Cousteau, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me.” As educators, it is our responsibility to provide, mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors for our students to be able to see themselves and others in the subjects they study. This is a variation of the Black Mathematicians' Resource and Black Mathematician's Calendar available in my Teachers Pay Teachers' Store.

This resource includes 10 women in the STEM field that use(d) mathematics in their careers.

Included in this resource is:

*Mini Biographies with video and QR codes that can be scanned if the resource is printed and displayed

*Word searches with the first name of each mathematician with answer key attached (2 options)

*Four question response sheets (2 options: one with lines and one with four boxes. The questions are the same on both pages. They are just organized differently.)

*Six ways the resource can be used.

*Additional websites to use to help develop your learning on each mathematician

*Enlarged QR codes with access to each video in the PDF file.

It is my hope that this resource enhances what you already do in your classroom, and sheds light on women that have and are impacting the STEM field.
