What educators are saying

Excellent resource! My group of very quiet grade 9s really enjoyed this work. This resource got them talking (a big win!). Thank you!

Description

This AP European History lesson plan lasts one class period and focuses on the popularity of witch hunts in the 1500s and 1600s in conjunction with multiple key concepts for this course.  Students will listen to a podcast and fill in accompanying comprehension questions. Then they will complete an original set of stimulus-based multiple choice questions (3 questions) based on the Malleus Maleficarum (answers and explanations included).  The lesson plan included in this resource gives prompts for a class discussion about witch hunts and women’s roles in Early Modern society. Lastly there is an original Short Answer Question which can be assigned as classwork or homework.

UPDATED: Resource now includes both a PDF version of the podcast Comprehension Questions, as well as a new Digital Activity for distance learning or paperless classrooms.

This lesson and resources are carefully tailored to the AP European History key concepts for Period 1.  Key Concepts 1.5.V.C and 1.1.IV.D are heavily emphasized while others are referenced in the multiple choice questions.  With AP style assessments and links to key concepts, studying witch hunts in Early Modern Europe is no longer a tangential lesson that seems randomly placed in a curriculum but is integrated with the content that students learn about the Renaissance, Reformation, and Scientific Revolution.
