What educators are saying

We paired this with The Mitten Tree. It was fun to see the many different designs the students came up with.
My students love these STEM challenges. I love how easy it is for me. I will definitely use them again!

Description

This Winter STEM challenge is perfect for kindergarten, first grade, and second-grade engineers working together or alone in centers this winter. A great addition to your unit on snow this January and February.

This resource uses the engineering design process to solve problems all winter. Your kids will have fun building a shelter, a shovel, and a clothesline to dry mittens. Each challenge has a bonus challenge to help differentiate. Make this winter season fun with hands-on STEM activities. STEM is the perfect way to build critical thinking skills and cooperative learning opportunities. Push your kids up Bloom's Taxonomy with these fun activities.

Here is a list of recommended materials:

Drying mitten activity - popsicle sticks, clothespins, yarn, play-doh ( I use play-doh to hold two popsicle sticks together), tape, and pipe cleaners.

Building a shovel - tape straws and popsicle sticks.

Building a snow shelter - toothpicks, popsicle sticks, and mini marshmallows.

However, you and your students can be creative and use whatever materials that you think might be helpful.
