Winter Math Centers

Who doesn't love doing engaging learning centers right before or after a holiday break? The use of these centers will capture students' interest while practicing a variety of math skills at the same time. All you need to do to prepare the centers is print, cut, and laminate the color center pieces, and then copy the student recording pages. There is even a black and white cover page if you want to make each student a packet of the recording sheets to make it easier to keep up with.

These centers have been aligned with the 3rd grade Common Core State Standards, but they could be used as a review of previously learned skills or remediation for 4th graders or enrichment for 2nd grade.

The 6 centers and specific CCSS are:

Hot Cocoa Equations
3.OA.A.4- determines the unknown number in a multiplication or division equation relating 3 whole numbers.

Holly Berries Operations
3.OA.B.5- applies properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.

Rounding Trees
3.NBT.A.1- uses place value to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.

Gingerbread Equality
3.NF.A.3- explains the equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare by reasoning about their size.

Reindeer Barn Areas
3.MD.C.6- measures areas by counting unit squares

Candy Cane Boxes Areas
3.MD.C.7- relates area to the operations of multiplication and division
