Description

Fine motor activities are an important part of any early childhood classroom! These winter fine motor centers and printables are engaging, quick to prepare, and provide students with authentic opportunities to strengthen their fine motor skills.

The following activities are included in this resource.

Lacing Pictures

Simply print these cards on cardstock and hole punch the dots I've shown. Studnets will use yarn or shoelaces to practice "lacing" the winter pictures.

Fine Motor Mazes

Students can work on their tracing and writing skills to complete these simple mazes. These mazes can also be used with small manipulatives. Instead of drawing in the maze, students can use their pincer grasp or tongs to fill the space with small items, like cereal or miniature erasers. 12 cards are included as well as 3 printable worksheets.

Snipping

Snipping is an important scissor skill, and means that students are able to quickly cut multiple short lines at one tiem. I've included 5 sheets of winter pictures for students to "snip." Simply provide the strips to students, in a center or for an independent activity and allow students to practice snipping.

Cutting Practice

Additionally, studnets need to be able to cut certain parts of a paper without cutting all the way through. I've included multiple pages for students to practice cutting and stopping. This skill will be important as they begin to complete more academic tasks, like flipbooks and interactive notebooks.

Cut and Paste

I've included 5 different cut and paste activities for students to practice following directions, cutting straight and curved lines, and gluing them to complete each activity.

Clothes Pin Matching

Students will match the winter pictures with clothespins, allowing them to strengthen their fine motor skills while playing a matching game. Simply cut the cards out, and glue the matching picture cards to clothespins.

Find and Trace

To set this activity up, just add the shape cards to a sensory bin or around the room. After finding a card, students should trace the 2D shape on their recording page.

Pom Pom Sorting

I've included cards with colored mittens on them for students to match with colored pom poms. Students can use their pincer grasp or tongs to pick up the pom poms and add them to each card.

Build a Snowman

Students can practice cutting out various 2D shapes and create their own shape snowman. For students are still building their skills, they can use simple square cuts. More advanced students can cut out the irregular shapes.

Spin and Trace and Roll and Trace

Students will use a die or spinner to trace different types of lines and 2D shapes. I've included many different versions of this activity so you can use it with multiple students at their instructional level.

Fine Motor Art

I've included coloring sheets, dot marker sheets, q tip painting sheets, and torn paper art activities for students to complete on their own or with a small group. Just add the materials you'd like for them to use and this makes a great center, as well!
