Description

This is a 7-page flipchart for Promethean Boards, but SmartBoard users can download for free the ActivInspire software from prometheanplanet.com.

This flipchart has colorful pages with 15 wild animals in German. It includes 3 (or more) lessons. It is very engaging and fun for elementary school children, but works great for middle school, too.
Lesson 1:
On the first page students move the animal word to the correct picture. Most of the words are close to English words (der Elefant, der Flamingo, der Bar, etc.). Wrong connections will make the word bounce back, some right ones trigger animal sounds.
On the second page, students "pull out" the same animals out of a suitcase and put them on the world map, telling "Der Elefant lebt in Afrika." Teacher can make hard copies of the world map and of pictures of these animals to the students, so that students can paste the pictures on the continents after the smartboard activity.
Lesson 2:
The next three pages have each one animal hidden in a suitcase for a guessing game. Teacher will read sentences about the animal in German (e.g. "It is black and white, it swims, and it lives in the Antarctica), and students are guessing the animal in German. Teacher then pulls out the animal out of the suitcase for students to see.
As a follow-up activity, students choose their own animal, draw its picture and produce similar sentences. Students take turns introducing their animal, or make other students guess their animal.
Lesson 3:
The final page has some new animals and some of the old animals hiding in the suitcase. One student at a time pulls two animals out, and guesses which of the two is heavier, which lighter, and putting them right or left of a scale. As a follow-up students do some research on-line or in encyclopedias on these animals and their weight, finding out if the guesses were correct.
