Whole Year of Film/Literary Terms Bell Ringers for Film Studies Class

This PowerPoint is designed to incorporate daily practice with vocabulary and definitions for an intro to film/film as literature class. I have included many sample answers, sources, and supplemental materials in the notes sections of the slides. These bell ringers are general in nature and sometimes ask students to apply the terms to movies they are currently watching, but you can use them with any combination of films you choose.

Monday they get four to five definitions, then Tuesday through Friday they work with those definitions by completing various practice activities. Every other week Friday's bell ringer will be a short vocab quiz.

These bell ringers have really added stability and structure to the class. Students feel like they are learning and integrating the terms because we are constantly referring back to them, and practicing daily with this specialized film language.

The PowerPoint file is editable so that you can rearrange, relabel, or skip a week or two to suit your needs. On the last slide, is a template/graphic organizer you may want to print for your students as they complete each week's set of terms. As a scaffold or accommodation, you could even insert a text box and copy the terms and definitions directly onto the template for certain students.
