• Additional Practice / Homework: Print and send book home with students to allow students access to books at home, and for additional practice.

Suggested Guided Reading Level: D

1. Repetition: Each page begins with a repetitive sentence, "The ____ likes to eat leaves a lot," and then is followed up by a more descriptive sentence explaining how they eat leaves.
2. Complex Syllables: This book contains a mixture of easier syllables in the introduction sentence on each page (to build confidence & fluency), and then the second sentence requires more decoding skills as it is more complex.
3. Basic Level Introduction: This book is a great way to teach students about animal diets, and what types of foods animals eat. The pictures guide the reader throughout the story.
