Description

This worksheet is great for sub plans if the students have computer access or as a lesson for a beef cattle unit. It also works with meat science and culinary science.

The students are given an easily navigable website (Certified Angus Beef) and asked to identify which part of the cow different cuts of meat like the brisket or T-bone come from. They are also asked to list common names for the cut of beef and to describe the cut. There is an example on the front of the packet as well so the students can see what they should be completing. I love how easy the website is to navigate and all the information is presented simply and clearly.

I like this packet because in theory you could hand it to a student and they can complete all the work on their own. It is also versatile enough to work with grades 6-12.

I wouldn't recommend this for a 6th grader for 100% independent work only because sometimes they need help getting to the website but it can be independent work for High School level students.

This assignment can fill a class period (mine are an hour and 1 minute). I have had freshman take just under an hour to complete this and most of a 6th grade class complete this within the hour with some help. If students take their time it will fill the hour otherwise there will be 15-30 minute gap where the high achievers are done and the students who need an extra minute will still be working. This assignment is nice because since they are on computers I can assign free time or have them start on their next assignment.

This assignment can be used as homework if the students have reliable internet access. It is also great because it can be given to a substitute teacher and all instructions are in the packet!
