What educators are saying

I have purchased many novel studies from TPT, this is by far the best one I have bought. It was consistent throughout each section, yet different, which kept students entertained. It did a wonderful job of connecting the story with reading and grammar concepts. Very happy with this purchase!
This resource was really helpful. It allowed her to read the book and to create a own game board without stress.

Description

This is not your cookie-cutter novel unit! I've spent 2 years creating this resource, testing it in my classroom, and tweaking it to help teachers get the most bang for their buck! With over 90 pages of resources, you'll be able to address all the big CCSS for literature and informational skills. Please check out the preview to see the full table of contents and some samples from this pack.

Each section of the novel has chapter summaries, vocabulary worksheets, comprehension pages, and journal pages. The following CCSS skills are also addressed directly with this unit: figurative language (simile and metaphor), theme, character traits, text evidence, point of view (including 3rd person limited, omniscient, and objective), main idea and supporting details, inferences, author's purpose, and context clues!

(RL.5.1, RL.5.2, RL.5.3, RL.5.4, RL.5.5, RL.5.6, RL.5.9, RL.6.1, RL.6.2, RL.6.3, RL.6.4, RL.6.5, RL.6.6, RI.5.1, RI.5.2, RI.6.2, RI.6.6, RI.6.9, W.5.10, W.6.10, L.5.4c, L.5.5c, L.6.4c)

The format is student friendly with engaging graphics used where appropriate. Students will get the opportunity to draw and color throughout this unit, as well as learn real facts about Ancient China. Included are two informational texts written by myself that provide historical information that relates to both the novel and ancient China. Answer keys are included.
