What educators are saying

This was great to help students realize that they can't control everything even though they want to. I think it made them feel more in control of things knowing they are not responsible for others and certain things are predetermined like the color of their eyes or their race.
I created a SEL lesson on What I Can and Cannot Control and this was a great resource to add in more material into the lesson.

Description

This lesson and activity is based on the circle of control, practicing the concept of what I can and can't control! Students sort and discuss 75 relatable scenarios (with 5 blank to customize!) onto a sorting mat with balloons. The mat references the idea of "letting go" the things that cannot be controlled. After sorting and discussing scenarios and a poster for reference, students will complete a graphic organizer and can take a notebook aid to remind them of strategies they can use when they are feeling out of control. All materials also come in a digital version using Google Slides, which allows it to be used in a classroom setting in addition to individual or group settings. These activities may last 2-3+ sessions. *Some scenarios may be too mature for some populations and can easily be removed. I have also included 3 in relation to PBIS.
