What educators are saying

My students loved this activity. An instructional tour that included my principal came by and I got a great shout out from my principal for the activity. I added a few extra stations just because I had a large class.
Both my students and I loved this set. It was a great way to introduce the topic to the students in a way that was both rigorous and hands-on for students.

Description

If you need meaningful Pompeii activities that share the fascinating history of Pompeii and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, you are in the right place! These no-prep Pompeii stations include both printable and digital options and cover a wide variety of topics related to Pompeii.

There are 6 stations in this station activity, and the topics covered at each station are:

  1. Geography of Pompeii (with a mapping activity)
  2. History of Pompeii (with a timeline sorting activity)
  3. Mount Vesuvius (with some volcano vocabulary labeling and some basic math facts)
  4. Artifacts and Architecture (with an inquiry-based image analysis activity)
  5. Primary Sources about Pompeii (with quote analysis from the letters of Pliny the Younger)
  6. The Future of Pompeii (with a news article analysis activity and reflection questions)

If you wish to use the printable version, simply print and distribute to your students! This 23-page resource includes 12 station cards to display around the room, handouts for the student packet, a teacher guide with tips on how to use this resource, and an answer key. You have everything you need for a successful station activity!

There is also a digital version of the activity in the form of a Google Slideshow. This slideshow contains 15 slides that pertain to five of the six stations covered in the traditional version. The only section that is not covered in the digital version is about Mount Vesuvius, as the activity did not translate to a digital activity as easily. Most of the text is locked down in the slide backgrounds so students are not able to edit the questions.
