Westward Expansion: The Pioneer Years

Mr Rhythm's "Westward Expansion /The Pioneer Years" is a fun theme to act out, sing, and is a great history-teaching tool. Children are introduced to the pioneers that moved westward as the United States expanded in the 1800s. Students will sing historic songs, each telling a small story of the journey west, or expressing part of the social culture as a festive folk tune.

The costumes and props are simple to create, and the theme of the script is transportation and communication. This popular musical play has 15 prerecorded songs sung by children just like yours. You decide on the number of songs to include. Incorporate the songs into your circle time right from the beginning, and the children will learn the words and motions with ease. This play also includes a number of related activities to enhance the learning experience.
