What educators are saying

My students loved this reading activities. Besides of learning, they are having fun coloring and identifying the areas on the map.
My students did the coloring at home, following the pictures I posted on Google classroom. After they did the coloring, they could compare the growth of the country and answer the questions included. It was a successful activity and they did well on the later assessment on westward expansion.

Description

Now can be used with interactive Google Map! This is a comprehensive mini-bundle with tons of options to fit your personal style and class level.

Teachers can choose from two printable student-centered instructional choices: an annotated timeline or stations. Students fill out a graphic organizer and complete a map activity with either option. The information covered includes:

the Mexican Cession, Gadsden Purchase, Oregon Country, Louisiana Purchase, Texas Annexation, Spanish Cession, and the Land Above the Louisiana Purchase.

At the end of the activity, a further Common Core writing option is for students to create a paragraph by organizing the information in a Manifest Destiny Pre-Write. The thesis statement is provided for them and the template has places to cite their evidence from the notes.

This 17-page activity includes:

▶️ A three-page annotated timeline informational text source

▶️ A cloze note graphic organizer that has students fill-in-blanks and shade in a map of each territory acquired

▶️ 8 reading stations broken up by territory

▶️ A stations one-page graphic organizer

▶️ A writing guide for a pre-formatted Westward Expansion paragraph

▶️ An interactive Google map with the same information as the timeline and stations!

Instructomania US History lessons are taught with a common theme by using key concepts in each unit. Through a key concept lens, students analyze the growth and struggles behind the early American growing nation. The key concepts embedded in our US history activities and worksheets included are geographical expansion and political, economic, and social development. The following key-concept subcategories are the focus in each unit:

  • Federalism (political development)
  • Republicanism (political development)
  • Government (political development)
  • Diversity (social development)
  • Territorial Expansion (geographic expansion)
  • Rights and liberties (political and social development)
  • Labor Systems (economic development)
  • Differing Economies (economic development)

Through the United States history bundles, students support key concept-based claims with evidence from both secondary and primary source texts.
