What educators are saying

My 5th graders were definitely engaged. I wanted something to challenge them. They enjoyed the Morse Code - decoding.
This was a great resource. It was truly constructed very well. It saved me so much time and my students really understood the concepts I was trying to get across to them.

Description

In this Westward Expansion and Morse Code Escape Room, students are introduced to both visual and audio clues using Morse Code, the communication system used by Samuel Morse's telegraph and popularized during the United States' Westward Expansion!

Students are placed in the shoes of investigators as they seek to crack a mysterious code left behind by the American Illuminati in order to restore communication across the United States. Student investigative teams have one class period to solve four clues, each written in Morse Code (audio clues included), then complete the final formula to crack the code. Each clue, once translated, deals with a significant aspect of America's Westward Expansion! Do you have what it takes to crack the code?

Students learn Samuel Morse's Code to translate four secret clues, conduct research or use background knowledge, solve a final math problem (based on the clues), and use the clue answers to calculate the final code! A 60-minute timer is also included to display as student teams try to break the code!

Guaranteed to excite and engage your classroom. Great for an end-of-the-year, team-building, or skill-building assignment!

Don't have a box or a lock? No worries -- simple workaround ideas are included that keep students focused!

This version is designed for the traditional classroom. You can find the version that is optimized for the digital, distance learning classroom here.
