My principal came to me weeks before school started asking me if I could pick up an elective course for our huge 8th grade class. I took on the challenge as he said I could make it whatever I wanted to be, so I went with podcasts!
This lesson is heavy in the listening and speaking standards while also being loose, fun, and creative. For this lesson, we listened to "Weird but delicious food combos" by Soul + Wit on Spotify. While the students listened, they filled out the organizer with what they heard while listening to the podcast. I also included a PowerPoint with pictures of the information discussed in the podcast. Then the students created their own podcast where they had to answer the questions/prompts on the script included. We had fun with this one and brought in weird food combos the next time we met!
