Week One / First Days Survival Kit for Middle School! with Identity Map Project

If you are new to teaching or to teaching middle school, the first week can be especially daunting. Actually, this week is tough for all teachers. I wish I had access to something like this when I was starting out.

This purchase includes two PowerPoint presentation files with embedded notes to the teacher; a printable syllabus on a PowerPoint file; guidelines, model, and rubric for an Identity Map project; and a Word doc with cards that students write to one another. The presentations are geared towards a language arts classroom, but they will work for most subject areas in middle school.

This bundle includes two to three days' worth of going over expectations, rules, and policies. The presentation incorporates essential classroom management strategies, such as: Do Now, Exit Tickets, silent entry, 100% participation, nonverbal cues for leaving the room, and more. Also, there are get-to-know-you activities and brain breaks.

After going over classroom expectations, students are presented with an Identity Map project that will foster relationships in the classroom. There is a teacher example, simple rubric, and cards that students fill out to give to other students after their presentations.

The first three days are intended to build classroom culture; days four and five are designated for presentations and making sure students uphold your expectations.

I have also included a syllabus on which you can copy and paste your information.

You are welcome and encouraged to use any and all of my strategies, but you will have to do some preparation before day one. You will need to put your information in place of mine, make your own Identity Map (you can paste over mine) and name plate, make the syllabus your own (again, just paste your information over mine) and tailor the rules and procedures to fit your own style. You will also need to review the presentations beforehand and print the necessary materials.
