Designed to fit in one class period, your students will build on what they have been taught in the classroom concerning weathering, erosion, and deposition. This is a great way to reinforce material in your Earth Science classroom, or a great way to review for state standards assessments. You can opt to use these activities as stations and simply use them as labs or activities to enhance what you already have planned in the classroom.
The stations bundle includes:
--A bell ringer warm-up (vocabulary crossword)
--Identifying the difference between weathering, erosion, and deposition
--Identifying different types of weathering, erosion, and deposition
--Reinforcing vocabulary through art
--Interpreting resources, such as periodicals and texts, to analyze the effects of hurricanes on landforms
--Three lab simulations of weathering, erosion, and deposition
--One fun simulation involving candy!
Materials needed:
Colored Pencils
Textbooks or other resources with examples of weathering, erosion, and deposition
Several books or articles on hurricanes
NERDS candy, enough for each student to have 2 NERDS each
2 small plastic tubs
1 large plastic tub
Sand
Water
Straws, enough for each group to have 1
2 spatulas
2 rolls of paper towels
5 pairs of goggles
2 trashcans
1 dustpan and duster
1 tennis ball
Enough medium-sized rocks or building blocks to make a small, several inch high structure
