Description

This activity can be used in the context of a computer lab or a library. The purpose of this activity is to have students analyze natural disasters, in this case hurricanes, and how they have an effect on our landforms. Through reading and researching about hurricanes, students should find examples of specific hurricanes that have caused weathering, erosion, and deposition. The first page guides the students through questions that will guide their research. They are asked to include the title of the resource and what page or web address it was found. The second page guides students through a four paragraph essay. Each paragraph is outlined for the student: describing the hurricanes effects, judging the preparation that was taken place to prevent the destruction of the hurricane, and planning other ways the city or community could have prepared for this event. If using this as a webquest, teacher may choose to provide students with specific websites to search. This activity includes non-fiction writing activity will guide your students through upper level thinking that will enhance this unit.
