What educators are saying

Super awesome resource to use during a cold war unit. I assigned each student to a specific portion of the song and had them research the information within that portion of the song.
This was a great resource to teach the history of the events from "We Didn't Start the Fire". My co-op class really enjoyed it and it provided a few weeks of great discussion and creating our own lyrics.

Description

In this assignment, students are presented with key facts that are related to the Cold War via Billy Joel's song "We Didn't Start the Fire." This assignment begins by having the students analyze the chorus of this song by Billy Joel. Then, students are shown a video of the song with the lyrics and visuals (link included). Next, the students listen to the song and follow along with the lyrics and are introduced to 26 key facts from the song that are related to the Cold War (each key fact includes a short summary and a picture). Lastly, the students create their own song using the same rhyming scheme used by Billy Joel (an example is included). This is probably one of my favorite lessons from the year! The students really get creative with this assignment!

Ready to print and ready to use! Excellent tool for auditory and visual learners!

** Print out a packet for each student to keep! This will help the assignment go a lot smoother!
