Description
TpT Seller Lavinia Pop and Phonics Advantage have merged their talents to present Vowel Power and Vowel Power 2 - Phonics CVC & CVCC medial sound substitution games. Vowel Power is a fun, educational game that incorporates significant phonics concepts in a presentation that is easy for the student to see, hear and comprehend.
Goals / Objectives of the game:
1. Reinforce and learn short-vowel sounds.
2. Learn (recognize) word families (chunks/phonograms).
3. Compare (visually and verbally) words that have the same beginning and ending sounds, but have different vowels.
When playing Vowel Power, students match CVC word cards (CVCC words cards in Vowel Power 2) that have the same beginning and ending sounds, but contain a different vowel (such as cap/cup, pit/pot, man/men). The short-vowel sounds are color-coded with matching color frames for easy recognition and reinforcement.
The original Vowel Power has 13 different sets of matching cards. Each set has 12 cards (or six matches). In each set, six cards are from the same CVC word family (making this a great supporting hands-on center for spelling units). Each Vowel Power set has a recording sheet with lots of clip art that makes learning look like fun. Vowel Power 2 has 15 different sets of matching cards. Each set has 12 cards (or six matches). Vowel Power 2 has 15 matching games for 15 different CVCC word families.
Vowel Power includes:
1. Vowel Power contains 13 different sets of 12 words cards (focusing on 13 different CVC word families) - Vowel Power 2 contains 15 different sets of 12 word cards (focusing on 15 different CVCC word families)
2. 28 different recording sheets – one for each set of game cards (13 recording sheets for CVC words and 15 recording sheets for CVCC words)
3. A visual aid to help struggling readers correctly pronounce vowel sounds.
4. Suggestions for Use describing how Vowel Power can be used to a) support spelling units, b) be sent home with struggling readers as a supplementary assignment to help students learn word families and increase reading vocabulary, c) work as a substitute spelling assignment for students who have difficulty writing, d) be used as a tutoring game break.
5. A form letter to parents/guardians for sending home with struggling readers describing how to play the game with their child (includes a recording section).
