Vowel & Digraph Sound Visual Posters
- PDF
Description
I created these posters for our classroom. I put the vowel combination or the digraph at the top of the page. I created visual clues for the students to help them remember the sounds vowel combinations and digraphs make. Here is a list of the included sounds: ar, er, ir, ur, or, oo, ew, ing, aw, au, ow, ph, sh, wh, ch, th.
When I teach the sounds I introduce these posters, but we also use little sayings or movements that go along with each poster to help them understand why that picture is on the poster. Here is what we use.
ar: ar says "ar" like a pirate
er, ir, ur: we make an angry face and say "errr"
or: or says "or" like an oreo
ew/oo: we make a gross face and say "ewww"
ing: ing says ing like the ing brothers
aw/au: we open our mouths and say "aw" like we do at the doctor's office
ow/ou: we hold our elbows like we are hurt and say "ow"
ow: we look surprised and say "oh"
sh: we put our fingers to our mouth and say "shhh"
th: we put our tongues out and say "th"
wh: wh says "wh" like a whiney baby
ch: we act like trains and say "ch" "ch" choo choo
I hope this clears up some confusion you may have on some posters.
