What educators are saying

This helped my students review this grade level skill. Worked well with individual and partner work.

Description

Engaging activity for students to practice finding the area of volume and cubes. Aligned to common core. Great for individual/partner/group work. Also a good activity for early finishers.

Cut out squares along the lines. I recommend printing on cardstock and storing pieces in a Ziploc bag. Students will match the picture of the image with it's total volume amount. Print a second copy to serve as an answer key. If you are printing multiple copies, I recommend using different colored paper so the pieces do not get mixed up. You may also choose to write a symbol on the back of each piece in a given set to help keep track of pieces.

Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths, and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formulas 𝘝 = 𝘭 𝘸 𝘩 and 𝘝 = 𝘣 𝘩 to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
