What educators are saying

This was an awesome review activity for finding volume of composite rectangular prisms for 5th grade. I set it up like a Walk the Room activity. The students really liked it. Will use it again next year.
This is a really tough skill for fifth graders. Additional practice is always a good thing. I print these cards out- allowing students to draw on them and break apart the multiple rectangular prisms.

Description

This set of task cards provides students with an opportunity to practice finding the volume of composite rectangular prisms. Included is a short directions page that gives the steps needed in order to solve for the volume of a composite rectangular prism.

There are 16 task cards for students to practice finding the volume of these figures. 8 of the task cards use whole numbers and 8 use decimals for differentiation and increased difficulty. There are also varying levels of difficulty in each task card, depending on the shape of the object, which would require students to divide the shape into more than just 2 pieces.

Printable and digital versions are included.

WHAT OTHER TEACHERS ARE SAYING…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved these task cards.  The kids worked well in small groups and were very engaged.  Thanks for a great resource!  - Anne Z.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a great tool to use as a reinforcement to our curriculum! The students enjoyed the task cards and loved showing their knowledge by moving around the room!  - Holden E.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfect station activity - and was even able to use it again during intervention to review the skill!  - Tara B.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Great for rotations or independent practice. Laminating them and letting students write on them with dry erase markers helped some of my students as well!  - Katherine H.

Relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real world and mathematical problems involving volume.
Recognize volume as additive. Find volumes of solid figures composed of two non-overlapping right rectangular prisms by adding the volumes of the non-overlapping parts, applying this technique to solve real world problems.
