What educators are saying

I adapted the worksheet a little, retaining the main elements. Students select 5 unknown words from selected reading passage each week and follow process. I re-visit words frequently, checking spelling and usage. Have found this product to be an excellent tweak to my repertoire.
This was a great addition to my emergency sub plans, because they can use it with any piece of literature we are studying! I just had them choose a word from the story that they didn't know the meaning of...

Description

Add a little fun to your current unit with this easy-to-use worksheet that can be used with ANY reading assignment, including short stories, novels, plays, and even non-fiction/expository articles. Students just choose a word from the reading assignment they don’t know and then follow the simple 11-step worksheet to become masters of that word.

This 2-page file (includes both a printable PDF and Google Drive version) includes a blank form and a completed sample to show students, if you wish. The sample is from my students’ study of To Kill a Mockingbird, focusing on a word selected from chapter 1, but you could use this worksheet with ANY piece of text your students are studying.

Hope you enjoy this activity, which works with sixth graders through high school seniors. Please note: Students will need to have access to a dictionary (either books or online) to complete this activity.
