A Virtual Field Trip to NASA's Johnson Space Center

This Virtual Field Trip to NASA's Johnson Space Center contains a PowerPoint presentation which can be shared with a class of students as they pretend to travel to visit the Johnson Space Center outside of Houston, Texas. A .pdf copy of the entire presentation is also included if you choose to print and laminate posters for a classroom or hallway display.

The Virtual Field Trip to NASA's Johnson Space Center is divided into 4 main parts: the Johnson Space Center Visitors Center, the historic Mission Control, the International Space Station and Space Vehicle Mockup Facility, and Rocket Park. The Johnson Space Center Visitors Center includes various exhibits that allow visitors to view inside a space shuttle, see various astronaut spacesuits, examine models of rockets, and participate in simulations to experience spacecraft travel. The historic Mission Control Center allows visitors to see where mission control specialists monitored numerous space missions including the famous Apollo 11 that landed man on the moon. The International Space Station and Space Vehicle Mockup Facility provides models of the various units of the existing International Space Center which are arranged as part of a floor model for research and training. The newest spacecraft which will carry astronauts to Mars one day can also be seen where work continues toward the future mission Various astronaut training areas and space travel vehicles are also visible. Rocket Park allows visitors to be astonished at the actual size of the Saturn V Rocket with exhaust nozzles that are approximately 11.5 feet wide.

This Virtual Field Trip to NASA's Johnson Space Center provides a great avenue for integrating technology into the classroom without the expense of actually travelling to the center. You can use this field trip to encourage your students to create their own using digital picture images from an actual trip or one that is researched on the internet.
