Students will learn the following:
- Characteristics that identify a vertebrate and invertebrate animal
- Describe major animal groups that make up each classification

- Teacher page of objectives and instructions
- Digital Google Slides link
- 8 printable worksheets that have comprehension questions

How to use this activity in your classroom:
- As a whole class activity to teach the differences between a vertebrate and an invertebrate. Guide students to underline key vocabulary terms and definitions, answer checkpoint questions, and assess comprehension.
- Use as sub plans when you cannot be in the classroom but need an activity that students can complete independently.
- To differentiate instruction among learners. There are options to assign print or digital versions to meet students' learning preferences. Decide whether students will use the graphic organizers to demonstrate learning, answer questions in the packet, or both!
- Group students to learn about vertebrates or invertebrates. Students can share their learning to create a collaborative activity.
Teacher feedback:
- Love this! Students made some great posters! Readings are excellent and provided quick research! A great addition to the Grade 6 Science Unit on Biodiversity.
- Excellent reference resource for my students throughout our unit classifying living things. We completed the organizers as a whole class, and I had them stored in clear pocket sleeves to use for the rest of the unit.
- Students read the material in partners and answered the questions together; they then filled out the last sheet on their own and handed it in to be assessed. Very factual and relevant! Fit perfectly into my diversity of living things unit
- These are so creative. So many different ways that it can be used. We only just started, and I can't wait to use the rest of it. Thank you for creating and making it easy to use in my classroom.
