What educators are saying

Outstanding resource! Easy to prep, easy to use and easy to check students understanding. 10/10 - Would highly recommend this resource.
This resource provides a variety of activities that you can use with your students to teach them about vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals. My students particularly enjoyed playing the games. Recommended!

Description

Do your students understand the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates? Can they classify animals based on their characteristics? These animal classification activities provide a variety of ways to build that knowledge during your life science/animals unit.

This science resource includes:

POSTERS

One for vertebrate and one for invertebrate. Includes the definition and examples.

ANIMAL CLASSIFICATION TIC-TAC-TOE

This is a 2-person game in which students determine if animals are vertebrates and invertebrates. They take turn drawing animal cards and placing them on a corresponding space on the board. The first to get three in a row is the winner.

GUESS WHO

This is a quick review game that takes just a few minutes to play. Can be used as a whole group activity or played by partners. Each card has a list of classification clues that are used to guess the animal. Try to guess using as few clues as possible.

ANIMAL SORT WORKSHEET

Students cut out the names of animals and glue them under the correct heading to show if they are vertebrates or invertebrates.

CLASSIFICATION FLAP BOOK

This is a foldable that works well for interactive notebooks. Students cut out the names of various animals and glue them under the correct flap.

VERTEBRATE SORT WORKSHEET

This activity requires students to sort a list of animals according to the type of vertebrate they are: mammal, fish, bird, amphibian, or reptile.

WARM OR COLD? WORKSHEET

Students cut out the different types of vertebrates and glue them onto a graphic organizer to show whether they are warm- or cold-blooded. They will also write examples of animals that belong in each category.

VERTEBRATES COOTIE CATCHER

This is a fun way for students to review important vocabulary. Includes template and instructions. The vocabulary and definitions are vertebrate, warm-blooded, cold-blooded, mammal, reptile, amphibian, fish, bird.
