Description
Your students are working as jewelry designers preparing for a Valentine’s Day sale. They have to incorporate properties of minerals into their jewelry design.
This winter STEAM project is an art project that incorporates science standards. It is intended for S.T.E.A.M., S.T.E.M., art, or math & science classrooms. It follows the design process which closely mimics the engineering design process and includes a list of requirements to incorporate real world design experience.

Materials Needed:
• A nail
• Fishing line
• Wire
• Thread
• Scissors, glue, tape
• A variety of craft materials: ex: feathers, buttons, foam, felt, embroidery thread, chenille stems, sequins, etc.
• A bag of natural mineral beads OR a variety of plastic beads (faux minerals): must have: different colors (color); some shiny, metallic, dull (luster); some diamond cut and some smooth (cleavage and fracture)-see links in project for options under $10
