Description

Have fun this Valentine’s Day with a Valentine’s Day themed poetry lesson (or two). Poems have been selected to ensure challenge, without too much sappiness or ick! After all, we know how middle schoolers can feel about love poetry! By creating a one-pager response, rather than a response to literature essay, this resource removes some of the fear factor some students feel when exploring poetry. After, students can use the poems to create a found Valentine’s Day poem of their own. Happy Valentine’s Day!

THIS RESOURCE INCLUDES:

  • A Google Slides presentation (8 slides including the title and end slide)
  • Teacher and student version PDF materials
  • Four poems (all in the public domain) suitable for Valentine's Day
  • Hint cards for each poem (these will need to be printed out and cut up prior to teaching)
  • Prompts (12 in total) for responding to the poems
  • A one-pager template

KEY FEATURES:

Low-prep materials – only the hint cards need to be printed out and cut to size ahead of time; an assortment of coloring pencils or pens are also required.

Other great resources for February:
