Valentine's Day Economics! Heart Basket Assembly Line (problem based learning)

Challenge students to put key economic skills to the test in this hands on, problem based learning activity perfect for Valentine’s Day but adaptable for all year! Students will not only learn how to make a useful heart basket, but they will create a budget, analyze available factors of production, explore the benefits of an assembly line and perform an actual work task to generate a profit. You’ll be amazed at how many standards will be covered while students are actively engaged every step of the way! This simulation utilizes common materials (colored paper, scissors, etc.) for students to work together in stages to create a final woven paper basket-cute for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion! This is an all time favorite activity in my intermediate social studies class! Includes detailed directions, tips, and templates, vocabulary student cards, activity worksheets, budget and assembly line teaching information sheets, budget worksheet, problem cards, and a reflection!
