Explore the nature of science with this holiday CSI investigation for grades 4–6. Students examine evidence using careful observations to determine who is responsible for writing an anonymous Valentine’s Day card.

Important:

This is the Grade 4–6 version of The Case of the Anonymous Valentine. A similar junior version exists.

Materials Needed:

· 5–9x12 manilla envelopes

· 2 or more different scents (can be from essential oil, perfume, air freshener, etc.)

· 5 Cotton balls

· 5 Zip top bags

· 4 pages total need to be printed in color- these can be used by the whole class.

· Addition materials listed in activity are optional
