Valentine's Day Center Syllable Count and Clip Task Cards Sorting Game Activity

About This Resource:

• These syllable count and clip cards are perfect for small groups, morning bins, word work, or an independent center activity during the month of February!
• These are a great early literacy activity to accompany a Valentine themed read aloud anytime during February.

This Resource Includes:

• 24 Valentine themed count and clip cards
• 1, 2, 3, and 4 syllable labels (if sorting the cards into piles or bins)
• Recording sheets (optional)

Preparation:

• Print, cut, and laminate the picture clip cards.
• Print recording sheets if using.
• Gather clips or clothespins, as well as baskets if you want children to sort the cards.

How to play:

• Mix up picture clip cards.
• Label a basket or container with each of the syllable signs (1, 2, 3, 4).
• A small Valentine candy bucket works well for this!
• Have children place a clip on the correct number of syllables for each card. Then they will place the card in the corresponding bucket or basket.
• For example, if they pick up the card with candy on it, they might clap the word and find that it has 2 syllables. They will place a clip on the 2 and then place it in the 2 syllable bucket.
• If they are using the recording sheet, they would then find candy and color in the 2 beside it.

Variations:

• This can be played without the recording sheet if you just want children to practice sorting and clipping the words and counting/clapping the syllables.

Printing Directions:

• Once your payment is processed, this PDF will be available to download.
• Be sure to change your printer settings to fit to page to ensure no part of the document is cut off. This usually works by selecting "fit to printable area."
