What educators are saying

These are so cute and my students had so much fun making them! I love when I can find a resource thats fun yet aligns with standards.
We did this craft so that we could decorate for Valentines day. The kids had so much fun making their heart guys.

Description

Practice teen numbers by creating “Valenteens”. They are silly heart people that feature a ten-frame. Super-fun and engaging, they are a perfect craft for Valentine's Day or a February Math Center.

I designed this heart craft to showcase teen numbers, which can be toughies for kiddos. However, the activity can easily be diversified because of the blank templates provided. You have the option to simply make a silly valentine, or one with numbers 1-12, for younger students.

Teacher Comment:

  • “I absolutely LOVED this resource. As many kinder teachers know.... teaching the teen numbers is always a challenge. I loved how I was able to use this to differentiate for students and not to mention... that these hearts are super cute! It made for an easy mini, hands-on assessment, which made a great display in our room and added to our February decor.”

  • “My students are learning about teen numbers and this was the perfect, festive supplement!" "Very engaging, great resource!”

Children can create a boy or girl "valenteen", by where they glue the bow.

The bows come blank, as well as printed with a teen equation.

There is a blank full-size heart pattern, so that children can draw their own silly face, as well as 10 hearts with a variety of faces for them to choose from.

I’ve also included a 1/2 heart pattern. Print and fold on the dashed line. Keeping the paper folded, students cut on the black line and then unfold their paper to reveal a large heart.

My students are always amazed at this, adding to the fun of our lesson.

Teacher Comments:

  • “Great way to incorporate the “fun” stuff while still hitting the standards!”
  • “Students loved making this teen number project! Directions were easy to following and allowed for fine motor practice! Great resource.

There are 4 options for the 10 frames: a blank set, a set with numbers, a set with hearts, and a set with numbers & hearts.

If you choose the blank set, children can make X’s & 0’s, use stickers, bingo daubers, or draw and color shapes to fill in the boxes.

For that finishing touch, I’ve also included gloves and shoe templates.

You don’t have to have legs, but I think they add to the silliness of the "my funny valenteen”, plus accordion-folding paper is a fun fine motor skill, that helps strengthen finger muscles.

Since my inspiration for these was the song, “My Funny Little Valentine”, I included links to the tune that you can play while your kiddos work on their creations.

There’s also a poster of the refrain, as well as an “Our Funny Little Valenteens” poster to use in the center of your bulletin board display.

Teacher Comments:

  • “LOVED this resource! It was great as a hallway display!”
  • “These turned out adorable and so fun to display!”
