Description

Ensure your Pre-K homeschool or private school student is meeting grade level standards with this year-long pacing guide. Great for new teachers, homeschool parents, or private school teachers to help guide curriculum planning!

HOW TO USE THE PACING GUIDE:

This pacing guide offers a general overview of the Virginia Early Learning & Development Standards. You can use the guide to help plan lessons and map your curriculum for the year. This pacing guide focuses on the standards for Early Preschool (34-48 months) and Later Preschool (44-60 months), and lists the standards in a sequential order for skill progression and to build on previous knowledge.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

  • One year's worth of curriculum and standards divided into 10 thematic units
  • Standards for Content Area Subjects - Literacy (Communication, Reading, Writing), Math, Science, and Social Studies
  • Standards for Developmental Skills - Health & Physical Development (Gross & Fine Motor Skills), Play & Learning, Social & Emotional Development, and Fine Arts (Dance & Movement, Music, Drama & Theatre Arts, Visual Arts)

*NOTE: The detailed ELDS standards are not included in this pacing guide (just the topics), but can be found at this link: https://www.doe.virginia.gov/early-childhood/curriculum/va-elds-birth-5.pdf. All VA teachers should use the pacing guide in accordance with the standards to ensure each objective is covered during the unit.

HOW IS THE PACING GUIDE ORGANIZED?

The pacing guide groups each standard into 10 thematic units. Each unit name is included in the top left corner of the page. You may choose to use these units or create your own themes. Each unit is designed to be covered in 3-4 weeks. However, units can be lengthened or shortened depending on student(s)’ ability to meet the objectives of each standard.

HOW TO USE THIS PACING GUIDE FOR ANY CURRICULUM:

If you are using this pacing guide for another state, look for areas where your standards overlap the ones included and areas where you will need to adapt these standards to meet your needs. This pacing guide is meant to be a reference for lesson planning throughout the year. Feel free to adjust the pacing of these units to meet the needs of your school and students.

*PLEASE NOTE: This package does not include detailed unit or lesson plans. The pacing guide is not editable.
